Chainsaw Safety Training
Now booking for March 2026!!
If your team uses chainsaws—even occasionally—this course helps ensure they do so safely, responsibly, and within clearly defined limits.
Classes are minimum 6 participants, and limited to 15 participants to ensure meaningful instruction and supervision. Training is available at your location, minimizing downtime and tailoring content to your work environment. Travel charges may apply.
Chainsaws remain one of the highest-risk tools used in general work environments. This half-day Chainsaw Awareness Safety course is designed for employers who want more than a checkbox—its for workers who need clear, direction and guidance for light-duty chainsaw applications such as brush clearing, storm response, property maintenance, and cleanup work.
Our training focuses on identifying hazards before work begins, using the chainsaw safely, understanding where basic use ends and higher-risk work begins. Participants receive instruction in chainsaw safety features, pre-use inspections, startup procedures, PPE requirements, safe handling and body positioning, and controlled cutting techniques that reduce kickback and other reactive forces.
Please note course content is not arbouriculture based, that our approaches vary greatly to the skills and experience of a qualified and trained arborist. It is intended to be an information based tool to assist operators and employers use chainsaws in the safest way possible, and to understand their obligations and duties in the Province of Ontario.
Clients selecting hands on/ practical component of training must have a minimum class size, provide their own chainsaws that meet a safe standard for operation, can be safely operated, with use only with properly fitted PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) based on the participants body type. Wedges, an axe and/ or hatchet is also required to be made available for practical exercises.
Build with Safety does not not provide any wood for the practical evaluation. We do not work on any brush or trees exceeding 8 inches in diameter.
There is an hourly upcharge following the theory course subject to scheduling availability. For liability reasons, we are regretfully unable to offer the practical portion to students from our school boards, or who are attending Co-op.
While we know you'll greatly benefit from taking the course, employers in Ontario are legally required to provide workplace specific training and offer safe work procedures for chainsaw applications as per the Ontario OHSA.
Certification is valid for three years from date of issue.
