Heavy Equipment Operator Training

This option is undertaken offsite at the clients location with equipment on site. Minimum class size is 5 participants. Cost is $185 per person with a maximum of 8 participants

CWST reserves the right to refuse training workers on equipment deemed unsafe through lack of annual certification, neglect or damage. 

All participants will be required to wear CSA approved footwear and PPE prescribed by the constructor or employer.

Heavy Equipment Training includes the following elements:

  • Hazards associated with heavy equipment
  • Pre-shift inspection (safety, mechanical & operational)
  • Safety on and around the machine
  • Suspended loads
  • Quick coupler safety (if applicable)
  • Blind spots and reversing
  • Site control
  • General operation
  • Load stability/handling
  • Practical assessment if equipment is available

Client equipment will need to be provided and be present on site prior to trainer arrival.

Equipment training may include any of the following: Skid Steer, Wheel Loader, Backhoe, Excavator, Bulldozer, Articulated Dump Truck, Sidewalk Machine, Motor Grader, Compactor (Landfill or Road)

CWST accepts no responsibility for operator error following the training. Certificates offered are proof the operator was successful in meeting the minimum operator requirements of the assessor on the day of the training. 

Employers are fully responsible for authorizing workers to use/ operate the equipment they offer.

Heavy Equipment Operator Evaluation

This option is undertaken offsite at the clients location with the equipment already on site. Minimum charge for half day of evaluation is $925 for under 5 participants. $185 per person with a maximum 8 participants.

This option is quite popular with municipalities when making educated decisions about hiring new employees, as it positively demonstrates strong due diligence. We review the operator critical decision making skills, their knowledge of hazards, pre-use inspection and assess their operating aptitude and comfort on the equipment, followed by a clean numerically scored document that assists operations management or management with making a final decision on their applicant.
