Stored energy, including electricity, is a leader in industrial workplace injury and fatality with many people caught in, caught between, pulled into, entangled, nipped, pinched and crushed by machinery not properly isolated. The most common denominator in these events is people not being trained in proper isolation techniques, being unfamiliar with the energy being stored and proper operation of the equipment and bypassing guards and safety devices intended to protect workers while servicing, repairing or maintaining machinery*.

This course is designed to help workers understand the different types of energy in their workplaces, the devices available for use to assist with isolation. It assists with identifying best practices in designing a program and approach to effectively mitigating hazards where machinery could harm or injure.

Certification for this course is valid for three years from the date of issue.

*This course supports effective means for worker duty of care; it does not negate the employer requirement to properly identify hazards associated with their industry specific machinery. Employers are responsible for obtaining engineered prestart operations on all machinery and training their personnel on safe de-isolation of equipment in addition to this training course material.
