CVOR Commercial Motor Vehicle

Core Program

This course is available at the CWST facility or offsite at the client location.

Minimum class sizes are 5 participants, and in the event enrollment minimums aren't achieved, the next available dates will be offered to clients. 

The course duration is one full day inclusive of classroom theory and a practical demonstration of a commercial vehicle inspection. The cost of the Core program course is $350pp. 

The classroom theory reviews CVOR Abstracts, Operator requirements, Facility and Safety Audits, Logbooks/ ELD information and Hours of Service. It also covers collisions and convictions, inventions and sanctions with non compliant operators. Weigh scales and Inspection types are also reviewed to inform and strengthen operators confidence in their duty before leaving their yard.

Don't need to review Inspections? We can swap your practical component out with a half day of any of our other CMV courses! 

The Commercial Motor Vehicle Program also includes separate half-day courses in Waste Hauling, Load Security, Air Brake Refresher*, Transportation of Dangerous Goods or TDG (Coming soon)

 Please call us if you'd like to book any of the other CMV courses as a stand alone.

Certification is valid for three years from date of issue.

* Kindly note that CWST does NOT certify operators with Air Brake endorsements, our material is designed to realign operator awareness when inspecting the air system.

Upon successful completion of the CVOR course, the learner will:

  • Be able to communicate the purpose behind the creation of the CVOR
  • Describe the difference between at fault an not at fault accident affects a carrier CVOR rating
  • Describe three different Driver Abstracts 
  • Explain the difference between 5 different inspection classes
  • Identify how a drivers hours of service will remove them from eligibility in driving
  • Identify the elements/ differences between an Operator Safety Audit and a Facility audit
  • Properly complete a schedule 1 inspection report as required by the HTA before entering a public roadway
  • Demonstrate their knowledge of the material through a written theory test
  • Demonstrate their knowledge in how to properly identify major and minor defects and report them on their inspection report
