Load Security

(CVOR/ CMV Program)

This half day course is available at CWST or at the clients location offsite. The price for this course is $150pp

Minimum class sizes are 5 participants, and in the event enrollment minimums aren't achieved, the next available dates will be offered to clients. 

This course is ideal for commercial truck drivers, scrap haulers, construction, landscape, municipalities using utility trailers who may be transporting loads required to be tied down during transport. We review the regulations for load securement within the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) and use the NACSS (North American Cargo Securement Standard). Case studies, video content and real life scenarios are used to reinforce learning objectives.

This course is also able to be substituted into the CVOR core program instead of inspections, dangerous goods or air brake refresher.

Certification is valid for three years from date of issue.

Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will:

  • Be familiar with where to find information in the HTA and the NACSS relative to load security
  • Understand the approaches to properly securing freight to trailers
  • Identify the hazards while operating a vehicle where loads are insecure
  • Understand the importance of engineered components and working load
  • Describe how the load forces of inertia affect vehicles when loads are not secured 
  • Describe load securement equipment used in various applications of securing a load on a trailer or truck
  • Describe the different means to securing a load to a trailer or truck
